Umuire people started a journey that seemed unending in the year 2002, they started the building of their civic hall and could not finish it. It seemed like the end of the road for them. In 2012, the then youth chairman, Hon. Sunny Bekee came up with an idea that there was an Agency in Abia State called ABIA CSDP, that the Abia State Governor is developing the rural areas through them. Infact, he mentioned communities that have benefited from the Agency which included Umuezechi, Umuawa, Umuene etc. he suggested that they should go to them for assistance.
On hearing that, they expressed interest to benefit from the Agency, the Agency sensitized the community and assisted the community in prioritizing their needs. Raising the counterpart fund which is 10 percent of the project cost was like a journey to the moon however both the youth, the Isiopara, the women and other members of the community both home and abroad fought hard and the money was raised.
Today, the community now boasts of a beautiful structure called “OVU EZUMEZU” NDI UMUIRE through the assistance of the Abia CSDP. The project has provided a comfortable meeting place and a place for social gathering in the community.
The CPMC Chairman Prince Blessing Nwanosike could not hide his joy at the completion of the project. In the words he said “If you take a trip to Umuire Omoba now, it is wearing a very beautiful look, smiles on the face of everybody,as if the civic hall is not enough, the Agency is also extending our electricity project to all parts of the community, every household in Umuire will now be connected to electricity. We are happy with the present Abia State Governor ably lead by Chief Dr. OKezie Ikpeazu”.
