After a successful hosting of the Stakeholders' Workshop on Maintenance and Sustainability of CSDP projects in Ekiti State, the Board and Management of Ekiti State Community and Social Development Agency, EKCSDA, met with the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to brief him about the activities of the agency in the last two years.
The Agency's team was led to the meeting by its Board Chairman, Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae who briefed the governor on the achievements of the agency in the last two years. He told the governor that the agency has lived up to its billings by developing projects that have touched the lives of ordinary people at various community levels.
"The beauty of these Community Development Plans, CDPs, is that they are initiated and implemented by the communities themselves based on the Community-Driven Development approach of the World Bank, and it has seriously impacted our people. The impact stories from the projects are overwhelming, and both the World Bank and the Federal Project Support Unit, FPSU, are well pleased with the agency's performance."
Chief Fasae explained to the governor that the Agency has so far funded 255 Community Development Plans, CDPs, and 19 Group Development Plans, GDPs, translating to over 630 micro-projects across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, which cut across all the major sectors of development.
Chief Fasae thanked the governor for his support to the agency, particularly in the payment of three hundred and seventy-five, N375m as the state counterpart funds on the project, the highest paid by any governor of the state in over ten years of the agency.
Responding, Dr. Fayemi appreciated the agency for her good jobs over the years which to him should be communicated across the state, the nation and the world at large.
"For us as government, the achievement of EKCSDA is too important to be put under the table and we need to communicate it to the world."
"The labor of love over the years cannot be easily forgotten as well. We should not lose the memory of what the agency did during my first time as governor and what they have been doing since we came back as a government in 2018."
"I am deeply familiar with CSDP in Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole. Our communities are so appreciative of your activities as a development agent at the rural levels. I have also received letters from many communities thanking me for what EKCSDA has done in their communities. This is one of the reasons why we have also rejigged our community-driven strategy by creating a new department known as the Bureau of Rural and Community Development to oversee the agency and to leverage on its performance in preparation for the Nigeria CARES project which begins next year."
The governor also used the forum to commend all the benefiting communities on the project and urged them to take good care of the micro-projects in their domains. "More importantly, that the communities have taken ownership of the projects, they must ensure that the projects are their property, they must ensure they are properly maintained and sustained."
