Construction of a Block of Classrooms and Equipping of Skill Acquisition Centre

The Al-Ansar home, which is located in Kuje, of Kuje Area Council, lacked enough classrooms to accommodate the growing population of orphans in its care, most of whom are from conflict areas. In addition the children, even when provided the necessary classrooms and furniture, will also require uniforms and being orphans that could also pose a challenge.

The home, which is mostly run by by women, most of whom are widows themselves, was also in need of equipment to impart skills to its staff and others to enable them generate income for themselves and their families. Some of the skills taught include dressmaking, knitting, soap making and embroidery.

Overwhelmed, the home approached the agency for assistance in the construction and equipping of a block of four classrooms, and the provision of 200 uniforms to the pupils (a pair for each pupil). As for the women, it needed the agency’s assistance in partitioning of an already-available building and the provision of the necessary equipment to enhance its skills training capability.

At the completion of the beautiful school structure and provision of new uniforms to the pupils (including cardigans woven in the home’s skill acquisition centre), the home reported and unintended but cheery consequence -  pupils of other schools urging their parents to enrol them in the Al-Ansar primary school.
