BORNO CSDA INTERVENTIONS IN REBUILDING COMMUNITIES AND GROUPS AMIDST OF INSURGENCY

Having forwarded a letter of expression of interest to participate in the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) additional Financing II (AF II), the Borno state CSDA came into operation in July, 2017 and has so far reached an outstanding milestone and made impactful achievement through its sensitization/advocacy visits and

massive micro-projects implementation in the insurgency ravaged communities/groups of the state spanning the Twelve (12) participating local government areas approved by state government based on poverty map, comprising of Three Hundred and Thirty-thirty Nine (339) micro-projects that have been formulated and 80% completed in Ninety (90) communities and Sixty-Three (63) groups within this time frame.

These Projects cut across Education, Health, Water, Transportation, Electrification, Socio-Economic, Environment and Housing sectors in the identified society. In addition, about 769,479 persons have benefited directly or indirectly in one way or the other from these projects in line with the objectives of which the Agency was established, i.e. “To increase access by the poor the poor people and particularly by the Internally Displaced and Vulnerable people in the North East of Nigeria to improved social and natural resource infrastructure services in a sustainable manner throughout Nigeria.

Similarly, at the inception of the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, the agency scaled up intervention in nine (9) additional LGAs cutting across the 3 senatorial districts.

More so, about 244 micro projects were prioritized by the 59 and 48 communities and groups identified respectively across the nine (9) additional LGAs of the state. By and large, the sum of One Billion One Hundred and Ninety-One Million, Three Hundred and Twenty-

Eight Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Five Naira Eighty-Seven Kobo (N1.191,328,795.87) have been earmarked by the World Bank for the execution of these projects between May, 2019 and June, 2020.

This exclude the mandatory 10% / 5% in cash and in-kind (IKC) contribution of communities and groups as condition for the implementation of the projects which at the end guarantees ownership to the beneficiaries.

Going forward, BOCSDA will look to make inroads to more communities and groups in order to completely eradicate poverty in our troubled situations as we hope the 2020 intervention will go a long way in meeting our set targets. This is achievable because the state government under the leadership of Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE has shown their readiness and political will to support our projects through the CDD approach.
