Akwa Ibom State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (State CARES) for Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (NIGERIA CARES) has been inaugurated.
Inaugurating the Committee, the Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, said the Committee is expected to work out modalities that will enable the State benefit from the World Bank's Post COVID-19 intervention programmes as directed by the National Economic Council.
Dr. Ekuwem expressed confidence that the crop of persons in the committee are capable of providing the necessary services to enable the state benefit from the grant.
The committee, the SSG said, is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating and delivering systems to scale up emergency support, regulating guidelines to support effectiveness and sustainability of livelihood and food security activities; capacity building and necessary guidelines to enable the state achieve the Seven Disbursement Link Indicators (DLIs).
Chaiman of the AKS CARES Team is the Commissioner, Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, while the Director of Economic Planning in the Ministry, Mrs Enobong Okpongkpong serves as Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs (Dr Glory Edet), Commissioner for Finance(Mr Linus Nkan), Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning( Prof Victor Inoka), Commissioner for Trade and Investment(Prince Ukpong Akpabio) and the Special Adviser, Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperative, (Hon Ekemini Umoh) .
Also, other stakeholders are the State Accountant-General (Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport( Mr Effiong Ekpenyong), General Manager, AKSACSD (Mr. Ishmael Akpan) and the State Project Coordinator,FADAMA (Mr Richard Sam), among others.
Responding on behalf of the Committee Members, the Chairman, AKS CARES, Mr Akan Okon thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for setting up the committee and pledged to work assiduously to ensure that Akwa Ibom meets all the requirements that will enable the state to participate fully and benefit in every post COVID 19 activty of the Federal Governemnt as sponsored by the World Bank.
